Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Prep and Paint

Start by laying down some newspaper to protect your surface. Take the foam paintbrush and apply an even coat of black washable paint to the palm and fingers of your preschooler's hand. Make sure it's fully coated but not dripping!

Step 2: Stamp the Cap

Carefully guide your child's hand onto the white cardstock. Press down firmly on the palm and each finger to ensure a solid print. Tip: Keep the fingers close together so it looks like the solid top of a graduation cap! Lift the hand straight up to avoid smudging, and immediately use a wet wipe to clean their hand.

Step 3: Add the Tassel

While the paint dries, cut a small piece of yellow yarn and tie it to look like a graduation tassel. Alternatively, you can cut a tassel shape out of yellow construction paper. Once the black paint is completely dry, glue the yellow tassel to the corner of the "cap" (the heel of the handprint).

Step 4: Customize and Display!

Use a marker to write the child's name, the graduation year, or a sweet "Goodbye Preschool" message at the bottom of the cardstock. Your DIY graduation cap keepsake is complete!
